Video: 9 Year-Old Girl in Zamboanga Killed in Dog Attack



A 9 year-old girl died while three others escaped unscathed in an attack by a dog in a subdivision north of Zamboanga City.

Police Officer 2 (PO2) Ladja Alwazer said the incident took place around 4:50 p.m. Monday at the Summer Hill Subdivision, Pasonanca village, five kilometers north of the city.

Alwazer said the victim was a Grade 4 pupil at the Pasonanca Elementary School and a resident of Cabatangan village. Alwazer said investigation showed the victim, together with three companions, was on the way home coming from school when attacked by Belgian Malinois.

The dog, which was tied to a steel pole, has managed to get loose after its collar snapped, he said. The victim, who was cornered after she fell on a ditch, sustained multiple injuries. She sustained a fatal bite wound on her neck. Her three companions have managed to escape unscathed, said Alwazer.

Meanwhile, Police Station 7 commander Chief Inspector Larry Domingo said they have turned over the dog to the custody of the Office of the City Veterinarian for observation. City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Arriola said they dog has been placed under a two-week observation to determine whether it has rabies.
