Boxing Champ Evander Holyfield Visits the Philippines




MANILA, Philippines – Former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield is in the Philippines to visit the victims of Typhoon "Pablo".


Holyfield, a goodwill ambassador of Global Village Champions Foundation, will be in the country for a week to give assistance to the affected residents of the typhoon in Mindanao.


The former boxing champion arrived in the country early Wednesday morning. He is accompanied by the Global Village Champions Yank Barry.




Holyfield is also expected to meet with Filipino boxing icon Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, also a goodwill ambassador of the foundation.


On its website, the foundation described itself as "a not-for-profit organization with a 19+ year track record of excellence."


It said it has delivered over 555 million meals to hungry people around the globe, and is determined to achieve "a day without hunger" by December 31, 2013.


Boxing legeng Muhammad Ali is also one of the prominent figures behind the foundation.
