An accident could happen anytime, anywhere. Four people were injured after firearms loaded with bullets went off during separate gun show events in North Carolina and Indiana.
Authorities said three persons were hit after a 12-gauge shotgun, which a 36-year-old man planned to sell at the Dixie Gun and Knife Show, accidentally discharged, according to a CNN report.
Gary Lynn Wilson of Wilmington was unzipping the case for security inspection at the entrance when the gun fired off. The injured victims were identified as 54-year-old Janet Hoover of Benson, Linwood Hester, 50, of Durham, and Jake Alderman, a retired deputy sheriff.
Investigators are now determining whether or not it was legal to bring a loaded gun inside a state property considering that the show was being attended by a large crowd.
The incident prompted police to ban private gun sales and close the show until Sunday. By that time, vendors can continue to sell secured firearms, the report said.
The accidental firing in Indiana was self-inflicted. In a statement, state police said a 54-year-old man who came from the Indy 1500 Gun and Knife Show shot himself in the hand while loading a .45-caliber gun.
The unnamed gun owner was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. Police reportedly said no charges will be filed against him.
