MANILA, Philippines – Star Cinema dominated the recently
concluded 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), taking the top two
spots in the box office rankings.
In its official Twitter account on Thursday, the Metropolitan Manila
Development Authority (MMDA), which is in charge of the MMFF, said Star
Cinema and Viva FIlms' "Sisterakas" turned in P342 million during the
film fest's 14-day run, making it the country's top-grossing local film

The blockbuster comedy starring Kris Aquino, Vice Ganda and Ai Ai delas
Alas has already overtaken "The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin" as the
all-time box-office champ among local releases.
Coming in second is "One More Try," another entry from Star Cinema. The
MMDA said the festival Best Picture winner earned a total of P170.5
million during the two-week period.
Headlined by Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban, Dingdong Dantes and
Zanjoe Marudo, "One More Try" overtook erstwhile second-placer "Si
Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako" which finished the MMFF at third
place with grosses of P133.5 million.
Meanwhile, the horror movie "Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14" was a distant fourth, earning a total of P45.3 million.
The MMDA said this year's MMFF was a huge sucess, setting a
record-breaking P767.8 million total gross for the eight entries -- or
21% higher compared to the 2011 record of P636.7 million.
The MMDA didn't release box-office figures for the other four entries --
"The Strangers," "El Presidente," "Sosy Problems" and "Thy Womb."
Before Thursday, the last official box office update provided by the
