MANILA, Philippines - And the first NBA pre-season game in the Philippines might finally be held.
The Mall of Asia Arena, in a series of tweets using their official @MOAArena account, teased Filipino basketball fans that "BIG THINGS ARE COMING TO MOA ARENA."
Last year, InterAKTV reported that the SM Group is in talks to bring an NBA exhibition game to MOA Arena.
"Hans Sy was invited by Commissioner [David] Stern during the All-Star Game, and Hans told the Commissioner that he has an arena that is suitable for hosting one of the NBA games," said Junel Baculi, the athletic director of National University, which is part of the SM Group.
According to @lishuangfu Lakers & Warriors will play games in China next fall, Pacers & Rockets will play in Taipei & Philippines
— Brian Windhorst (@WindhorstESPN) February 8, 2013
ESPN writer Brian Windhorst actually tweeted about this almost a week ago, saying that Li Shuang Fu, an NBA writer for Sina, shared that the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors will meet in preseason tussles in China while the Houston Rockets and the Indiana Pacers lock horns first in Taipei, then in the Philippines.
If things fall into place, Filipino hoops aficionados will be witnesses to two of the NBA's most exciting young talents in James Harden and Paul George while also being part of Jeremy Lin's return tour to Asia.
