The cable repairman who attacked a subscriber in Alabang, Muntinlupa last March 13 has surrendered to the police.
Colonel Roque Vega, chief of Muntinlupa City Police, said suspect Rommel Mendoza surrendered to the police in Festival Supermall at around 11 p.m. on Monday. Vega said Mendoza, a repairman from SkyCable's third-party service provider Erat Tech, admitted to attacking the female victim.
Mendoza, according to Vega, said he only stabbed the 35-year-old female victim after the latter tried to fight back. He fled with the victim's cellphone, laptop and some cash.
The victim, who said Mendoza also tried to rape her, was rushed to the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Alabang after being stabbed with a glass shard at least seven times. She said she was able to call for help using another cellphone that Mendoza failed to get.
In a statement released on March 15, SkyCable said it is saddened by the incident and stressed that it does not condone such acts.
"We received news yesterday that one of our subscribers is in the hospital due to an alleged attempted rape by one of our third party service providers. We are saddened to know of such incident. We do not condone such acts and we firmly believe that the individual who committed this heinous act should face all legal consequences after undergoing the necessary judicial process,” the cable firm said.
The company also said it will look into its processes to ensure the safety of its customers, noting that the suspect is not an employee of SkyCable.
“We truly understand the sensitivities of allowing third party service providers to enter our homes. Rest assured that we will further strengthen our internal processes to ensure the utmost safety of our subscribers.”
“We are praying for our subscriber’s speedy recovery and we are hoping for the early resolution of this case to give her justice,” SkyCable added.
